Student Care

At St. Dominic High School, we believe that every student deserves to feel supported, valued, and cared for. Our Student Care team is committed to promoting the well-being of our students and providing guidance and support throughout their school journey. We work together with students, families, teachers, and other professionals to help ensure that each student has the support they need to learn, grow, and thrive. The St. Dominic High IB World School will provide opportunities for students to achieve academic success and to mature in an atmosphere of Christian morals and ideals and the school values of knowledge, respect, and creativity.

While students may struggle to perform academically, there could be underlying issues that contribute to lack of or poor performance. At the St. Dominic High - IB World School our vision of care is ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for all students. The approach of the Care Team is based on didactical and pedagogical evidence-based theory and approaches to learning, supported by the fundamental beliefs of the Catholic faith. These beliefs begin with the recognition of the infinite worth of each individual and seeing the value of every person in honor and respect of their uniqueness. This includes the academic process, social emotional development of each student, and the wellbeing of all students and staff members.

Counselor

The School Counselor supports the social, emotional, and overall well-being of students by providing individual and small-group counseling, psychosocial interventions, mental health support, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed care. The counselor works closely with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals to address concerns, manage challenges, and ensure students receive appropriate support. The School Counselor may also assist with conflict resolution, facilitate communication between families and the school, and refer students for psychoeducational testing or other specialized services when additional support is needed.

Career Counselor

The Career Counselor plays an important role in supporting students as they explore their interests, strengths, skills, values, and future goals. Through individual or small-group guidance and career exploration, students are encouraged to consider the different educational and career pathways available to them and to make informed decisions about their future. The Career Counselor can assist students with subject and career choices, career assessments, exploring different professions, researching universities and other post-secondary opportunities, and understanding entry requirements. Students can also receive support with university and college applications, personal statements, résumés, scholarship opportunities, and preparation for the transition from high school to further education or the world of work. Whether a student already has a clear career goal or is still discovering what they would like to pursue, the Career Counselor is available to provide guidance and support throughout the decision-making process.

Student Care Coordinator

The Student Care Coordinator supports the overall well-being and personal development of students through prevention, early intervention, mentoring, and social-emotional support. The coordinator works closely with students to help them manage challenges, develop positive relationships and self-management skills, and feel safe, supported, and connected within the school community. The Student Care Coordinator also works collaboratively with families, school staff, the School Counselor, and community organizations to connect students with appropriate resources and services when additional support is needed. This may include assistance with referrals, safeguarding concerns, crisis support, bullying concerns, and access to practical resources, helping to ensure that students receive timely and appropriate support.
